On 5 May, our Grade 10 to 12 Maritime Economics students visited Durban Harbour for an eye-opening educational tour. As the busiest port in the country, it provided the perfect setting to see the industry in action. Students toured the control tower, watched giant container cranes at work, and got a close-up look at the powerful tugboats that guide massive vessels safely into their berths.
The trip also highlighted the importance of Maritime Economics. Seeing the constant flow of cargo made classroom lessons on global trade and the "Blue Economy" feel real, showing how port efficiency directly affects the cost of goods in our shops. Students also met industry professionals, from pilots to engineers, giving them a clear look at future career paths. We thank the Transnet National Ports Authority for hosting us and providing such a valuable look at the heartbeat of our economy.
