The District competition is a high pressure environment, but our athletes showed great speed and determination and they handled the Richards Bay heat with the never give up attitude we expect from our learners. Nkonzo Gumede and Thandokuhle came first and third in 100m their boys and girls heats respectively but unfortunately they did not make it in their finals.
A masterclass in speed
Competing in the under 15/16 girls category, Asimbonge Gumede put on a display of pure speed and composure. She officially cemented her status as one of the District's top sprinters with two podium finishes.
● 1st in her 100m heat and 1st in grand final 100m race.
● 1st in her 200m heat and 2nd in the grand 200m race.
She qualified for cluster level to be held in Richards Bay on the 28th of February 2026.
Preparation meets performance
Success on the track doesn't happen by accident. Asimbonge's quiet focus - from meticulous lacing of her spikes to her concentration behind the starting blocks. The dedication is what sets a champion apart from the rest, and her performance has inspired the entire Gratton sporting community.
